This timeline was created for my research project. It shows the early origins of intercountry adoption by decade along with the countries that were major sending countries to the U.S. during specific decades. It also depicts the policies that govern intercountry adoption – it is pretty stark to see that the length of time it took for the U.S. to enact legislation providing oversight (however one feels about the quality of that legislation and/or oversight) that it was very late in the game overall. Also, in red you can see that years that the U.S. Census asked about adopted children in households.
