Hollywood disses Asians yet again*

Here's a fairly typical night at the Harlow Monkey household. My daughter was asking about whether the Pokemon character Jynx was a caricature of "blackface" and so we were talking about blackface and yellowface in the movies and television. Then my daughter showed me this YouTube video – check it out!!

I've got to say, not only is this guy charming, but I like what he has to say.

And yeah, we're cute, I can't deny that!

  1. I am going to be seeing the same problem with “Avatar: The last Airbender.” They are casting white children in those roles for the movie and dagflabbit my seven year old loves that series and will not see himself reflected in it.
I constantly complain to Disney and Nickelodeon about their content. I don’t understand why it does not improve.
There are some Asians, but for example the Nickelodeon series “Three Delivery” set in some mythical China Town. It is a start I guess, but why not depict Asians just as ordinary Americans?
I do like seeing Asian culture (there’s one show that teaches children Chinese, very cool), but 100% stereotype seems like an insult to me.

  2. Sorry they cast a white guy when they should have cast an Asian! That’s got to hurt!!!
Gotta say though…your are pretty hot in the video!! It’s a shame I’m old enough to be your…well…much, much older sister!
