Hello! My colleagues Susan Branco and Grace Newton and I are currently conducting a research project and would like to invite you to participate in the study. The study entitled Adoptee Consciousness Model: The Lived Experiences of Transracial Adoptees has been approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of St. Bonaventure University (IRB #: 532).
You are eligible to participate in this study if you can answer yes to the following criteria: 1) you are an adult between the ages of 18-65, 2) you identify as a transracial adoptee (you were adopted by parent(s) of a different race than yourself), 3) you are English language speaking, and 4) have experienced a rupture related to how you understand adoption systems and practices.
The purpose of this study is to better understand the lived experiences of adult transracial adoptees who have experienced adoptee-related consciousness/awareness. If you choose to participate, you will be asked to participate in a Zoom focus group with other adult transracial adoptees that will last approximately 60 to 90 minutes to discuss your experiences. The meeting will be held on a secure virtual platform. During the focus group we will discuss your experiences with awareness/consciousness connected to individual, family, community, and or structural-related adoption systems and or practices. Participants in the study will receive a $20 gift card for your time.
Participation in this study is voluntary and you can withdraw from the study at any time. While the results may be published, your identity will be protected. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about the study. You may contact us at adopteeconsciousness@gmail.com.
If you would like to participate, please complete the screening questionnaire. Please note that we aim to recruit a diverse sample of participants, therefore, not everyone who answers the screening questionnaire will be asked to participate. We will respond with more to discuss the details of the study.
