  1. That’s not adopting in theory, that’s sponsoring and I totally support that. I think that’s what celebrities and people with money could do rather than take children away from their countries. It’s a wonderful idea – or am I missing something?

  2. No, no Kim. You’re exactly right!
    Maybe I should have commented on this, but I posted it partly because it’s a great example of the language that is used by our society.
    We over-use the word adoption. Just like we over use the word “orphan.” The whole M@donna adoption thing drove me crazy because so many newspapers wrote “M@donna adopts an orphan” when we all know that the child is NOT an orphan.
    And I agree with you totally.

  3. A lot of people praise celebrities for adopting those “poor needy” children. Is it a fad? Is it just to feel good for the moment? What about when the accolades fade? Will they grow tired of them like pets?
    I hope for the sake of the child that this will be a loving, nurturing environment. Not only that, but at some point, these children will need to know and experience their birth culture. If they don’t, there will always be something missing in their lives.
