Mia Farrow criticizes illegal Haiti adoptions

From the AP

GENEVA – UNICEF goodwill ambassador Mia Farrow has criticized as "deplorable" attempts to take children out of Haiti illegally after last month's devastating earthquake.

The
U.S. actress says groups or individuals who want to help Haiti's
children should rather support orphanages or their families inside the
country.

Farrow, who herself has adopted 11
children, says offering parents a better life for their children
elsewhere is "completely unacceptable and immoral."

  1. and angelina jolie chimes in too! I watched the interview (I think via cnn?) and I thought it was strange that she even entertained the question (“we’re that kind of family”) since she was there for the UN and i think also with SOS, both of which have come out with strong statements against international adoption at this time and gave really concrete explanations for their position. angelina’s was quite vague and not very critical (“that’s not what we’re here for” or something like that).
i guess once madonna states that she’s not adopting a haitian orphan either it will be a historic celebrity revolution.
    i’m not holding my breath.
maybe that’s too pessimistic. what do you think? do you think this change in celebrity attitude is significant, marking a shift in how the U.S. thinks about int’l/transracial adoption? or is it less substantive and just a last-minute attempt to distance themselves from the detained Americans-fiasco?
